The day when Premium League turns Red. The biggest game of the season for two huge clubs. Title chasing Liverpool hosted Manchester United at Anfield in what always promises to be the game of games. The North West Derby between Liverpool and Manchester United was a cracking affair in which Liverpool came out 2-0 winners as they went 16 points clear at the top of the table and 30 points ahead of their rivals Manchester United.
Manchester United started with three at the back. Luke Shaw played as left center back with Brendon Williams at left full back. United player a similar formation like the one they played in October at Old Trafford in the 1-1 draw against Liverpool. United are still the only team to take any points away from Liverpool, who have won all of the other games this season in the Premier League.
It was a cagey first 10 minutes as United enjoyed some early possession but Liverpool struck first through Virgil Van Dijk's header in the 14th minute. Van Dijk rose the highest and hammered the ball in the top corner past a helpless David de Gea. Liverpool thought they have doubled their lead in the 24th minute when Firmino scored but it was given as a foul on De Gea by Van Dijk in the build up to the goal, similar to Calvert Lewin for Everton at Old Trafford earlier in the season, which was given as a goal. This however, was disallowed by VAR. Andreas Pereira had a huge chance to make it 1-1 as he missed a tap in from Wan Bissaka's cross in the 38th minute and just 3 minutes later De Gea made a magnificent save to deny Sadio Mane as teams entered half time with Liverpool leading 1-0.
The second half started with Liverpool dominating Manchester United. Mo Salah missed a sitter in the 46th minutes after Luke Shaw's slip. This was shortly followed by Jordan Henderson hitting the post just 2 minutes later. United had to weather the Liverpool storm in the first 15 minutes of the second half but had a huge chance of their own in the 68th minute when Martial missed from close range after a give and go with Andreas Pereira. Another chance fell to Fred whose shot was denied by Allison. United piled on the pressure later on but couldn't break Liverpool's defense who were aiming for the 6th clean sheets in a row in the Premier League. United had a corner in the 90th min and committed all men forward, Alison gathered the ball and released Mo Salah, who went one on one with De Gea and scored to make it 2-0 in the 93rd minute in front of the Kop to seal the 3 points for Liverpool.
This win takes Liverpool 30 points clear of rivals Manchester United in 6th place and 16 points clear of Manchester City in second place. The Kop sang "We are gonna win the league" and this could finally be the year after 30 years when Liverpool go on and win the Premier League.
